    HAMILTON DE HOLANDA

Virtuosic, brilliant and unique - those are some of the adjectives used to describe this musician who sets world audiences ablaze. Hamilton de Holanda is one of the most acclaimed Brazilian contemporary musicians, known for his tour-de-force compositions and stunning command of his instrument. He started to play professionally at the age of 5 in 1981. Hamilton's curiosity and restless mind reinvented the image and sound of the bandolim (mandolin) by adding two extra strings (a pair of low Cs). This lead him to create a new technique and language for this emblematic Brazilian instrument, elevating and transforming the legacy and style of the bandolim into a global instrument. De Holanda has inspired new musicians and luthiers all over the world to build and explore the possibilities of the 10-string bandolim.

Hamilton is utterly versatile. A workaholic, he has over 130,000 followers on Facebook, 40,000 on instagram, hosts a largely successful ball room dance each month and stars in a weekly radio show. He has more than 30 albums in his discography (available in the USA through Adventure Music and ECM). With splendid technique and absolute "brazlianess" onstage or in the studio, Hamilton combines dazzling playing with performances filled with emotion. He feels at ease in any type of line-up which can be seen by the numerous invititations he has received to perform all over the world with different ensembles and collaborations. From solo to orchestras, from samba to jazz, from clubs to big crowds with names like Wynton Marsalis, Dave Mathews, Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, Marisa Monte, Seu Jorge, Chic Corea, Chucho Valdés, Egberto Gismonti, Mike Marshall, Melody Gardot, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, John Paul Jones(Led Zeppelin) to name a few.

He has perform from Jazz at the Lincoln Center to Hollywood Bowl, From the J. Paul Getty Museum to the Smithsonian Museum, From Telluride BlueGrass Festival to Savanah jazz festival

“He is the personification of everything we want in a musician, not just a great musician. He plays well, has good reflexes, knows how to listen, has a natural way of playing. He has depth of soul and feeling. He is a national treasure!” - Wynton Marsalis

This time Hamilton de Holanda, the Latin Grammy winner, brings to Los Angeles his fashion between Jazz, mpb and Choro . Hamilton brings the tradition of the “Choro" Originating in the 19th century from the mix of the European Waltzes and African rhythms, “Choro" is characterized by virtuosity, improvisation, subtle modulations, and is full of syncopation and counterpoint. It is considered to be the first characteristically Brazilian genre of urban popular music. Heitor Villa-Lobos defined “Choro" as the true incarnation of Brazilian soul.

“I'm asked whether what I do is ‘New Choro'. New Choro? I don't understand. That's perhaps because I play the bandolim. Choro is like the Mona Lisa: do you think she needs a touch-up? No! Choro is passed on by the wonderful artistry of musicians like Luperce, Jacob and Pixinguinha. Since the tradition is perpetuated, you don't have to do anything but appreciate it. In fact, what I do is a synthesis of this information with an influence from choro, bossa nova, jazz, and sounds from the street… It is a music that does not need labels to exist. It just has to be beautiful.”, says Hamilton.

This time he invites one of the greatest female contemporary singers in Brazil Roberta Sá. She comes from the northeast of Brasil - Rio Grande do Norte - is considered one of the best. She recently gained global notoriety for having performed in the closing ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Rio dressed inspire in Carmem Miranda

The repertoire will extend from Hamilton’s new compositions to his tributes to Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento, to his love for Baden Powell, Jacob do Bandolim and Pixinguinha. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show of Brazil's best!
