In honor of the midterm national elections, CAP UCLA welcomes filmmaker, playwright, journalist and activist Josh Fox with his new work, The Truth Has Changed, a solo monologue based on his book of the same name that traces the arc of American politics from 9/11 to Trump.
From his work as a first responder during 9/11, to his groundbreaking reporting on fracking, to his eye opening eco-flights over the Gulf of Mexico during the BP oil spill, to Hurricane Sandy, to the massive rallies for Bernie Sanders during the 2016 election and the Democratic National Convention, to Standing Rock and beyond, Fox has been an active eyewitness to history. Through his complex, funny and dramatic storytelling, he delivers a first-person account of the dizzy and confusing landscape in which he became a witness to systemic corruption on an unprecedented scale and the alarming shift towards authoritarianism in U.S. politics.
An Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker, Fox is best-known for the documentary Gasland – the film that started the anti-fracking movement worldwide – which resulted in his becoming the subject of a $100 million smear campaign from the oil and gas industry. He is also the only journalist ever arrested in Congress for doing journalism. In The Truth Has Changed, Fox recounts this amazing tale in a heartfelt and uncompromising manner that offers both a warning and a way forward for our besieged democracy.
After the piece, Josh Fox will take part in a panel discussion with special guests.
