Union del Barrio and the San Diego Community Opposes and Denounces the Visit of Racist Sheriff Joe Arpaio to San Diego
Protest to be held at the Marina Village of San Diego on Friday, November 06 at 5:30PM
San Diego, CA – The visit of Sheriff Joe Arpaio is an insult to the San Diego community.  The self-proclaimed “America’s Toughest Sheriff†Joe Arpaio is the hero of many anti-Mexican and anti-Latino groups that are prone to violence.  We oppose Jay LaSuer’s desire to make our community become like Maricopa County, Arizona, where Sheriff Arpaio runs his Department with no regard for human dignity.  The San Diego community unites its voice to oppose any candidate for public office who seeks support of a Sheriff who is currently under investigation by the FBI and the Justice Department.
“Sheriff Joe Arpaio is responsible for some of the most humiliating and dehumanizing actions against the Mexicano and Latino population in Arizona’s Maricopa County; his visit to our City should mobilize every worker, student and every teacher,†declared Bryan Constantino, member of Union del Barrio.
The Department of Homeland Security has emboldened Sheriff Arpaio in Maricopa County by permitting him to operate the controversial 287g agreement that allows local deputies to be trained as federal immigration agents. This agreement, which until recently did not contain federal guidelines in its implementation, permits Arpaio and his Department to racially profile entire communities. Today Arpaio and his Department are responsible for the suffering and pain of many families affected by family separation and other civil and human rights violations.
“The images of our brothers and sisters chained in Arizona, paraded through the streets of Maricopa County, are reminiscent of enslaved Africans during dark periods in United States history. In San Diego we will not tolerate this level of injustice by any law enforcement agencies,†declares Belinda Zamacona.
The Department of Homeland Security must re-evaluate and end the 287g federal program and the authority that the policy gives to local law enforcement. Â The aggressive and racist actions of Sheriff Joe Arpaio are a perfect example of how local law enforcement agencies violate the most fundamental human and civil rights of entire communities.

Unión del Barrio y la Comunidad de San Diego se Oponen y Denuncian la Visita del Alguacil Joe Arpaio a San Diego
Sostendrán protesta frente la Marina Village de San Diego el dÃa viernes, 06 de noviembre a partir de las 5:30PM.
San Diego, CA – La visita del alguacil Joe Arpaio es un insulto a la comunidad de San Diego. El mal llamado, “Alguacil mas duro de America†Joe Arpaio es considerado un héroe por varios grupos anti-mexicanos y anti-latinos quienes promueven la violencia. Nos oponemos a la intención de Jay LaSuer de hacer en nuestra comunidad lo que hoy en dÃa se hace en el condado de Maricopa, Arizona, en donde el alguacil Joe Arpio maneja su departamento sin importarle la dignidad humana. La comunidad de San Diego se opone a cualquier candidato que busque el apoyo de un alguacil que en la actualidad esta siendo investigado por el FBI y el Departamento de Justicia.
“El alguacil Joe Arpio es responsable por las acciones mas humillantes y deshumanizantes efectuadas en contra de la población mexicana y latina en el condado de Maricopa, Arizona, su visita debe movilizar a todo trabajador, estudiante, educador†declara Bryan Constantino, miembro de Unión del Barrio.
 El Departamento de la Seguridad Nacional le ha dado el poder y autoridad al alguacil Joe Arpaio en el condado de Maricopa para que opere bajo la controversial polÃtica de 287g, la cual otorga entrenamiento a ciertos oficiales para que actúen como agentes federales de inmigración. Este acuerdo que hasta hace muy poco no incluÃa una guÃa federal de implementación, le permite emplear a Joe Arpaio y a su departamento el perfilismo racial en comunidades enteras. Hoy, Joe Arpaio y su departamento son responsables por el sufrimiento y dolor de las familias afectadas por la separación familiar y son responsables también de las violaciones a los derechos humanos y civiles.
 “La imagen de nuestros hermanos y hermanas encadenados en Arizona, desfilando por las calles del condado de Maricopa, nos recuerdan el periodo de esclavitud de la población Africana durante uno de los periodos mas oscuros en la historia de Estados Unidos. En San Diego no se tolerará este nivel de injusticia por ninguna agencia del orden,†declara Belinda Zamacona.
El Departamento de la Seguridad Nacional debe re-evaluar y terminar con el programa de 287g y la autoridad que este acuerdo otorga a las diferentes agencias del orden. Las acciones agresivas y racistas de Joe Arpaio son un ejemplo perfecto de cómo agencias locales del orden podrÃan llegar a violar los derechos humanos y civiles mas fundamentales de comunidades enteras.
