GAY DAY AT KPFK - A 2009 TIME CAPSULE PROJECT

ABOUT THE BROADCAST

PARTICIPATE

In 1978 KPFK began annual Gay Day broadcasts commemorating the Stonewall riots that sparked the modern Gay liberation movement in 1969. They continued until 1995 when they stopped. Fourteen years of cultural, political and societal changes brings us to another exploration of expressing in sound who the LGBTQ community is at this point when the movement has been reignited with the California Supreme Court decision to uphold Prop8.

Sunday June 14th from 9:00 a.m. to Midnight you will hear the LGBT community express themselves in a day long celebration of Gay Pride 2009.

FULL SCHEDULE HERE

Featuring: Personal Time Capsule stories; Live reports from the LA Gay Pride Parade and Festival, rallies, protests, demonstrations, teach-ins, forums and gatherings; special segments from IMRU, This Way Out, Making Contact, outLoudradio, Free Speech Radio News, Voices of LGBT history from the Pacifica Radio Archives; poetry, listener call-in, tweet-ins....and MUSIC!

The time capsule: What would you say to people in 2059 about your life as a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or transgender person? This radio project seeks to collect as many stories as possible between the day of broadcast and June 13, 2010. Archiving and cataloging the stories in the Pacifica Radio Archives and the Library of Congress will make it possible for it to be re-opened and rebroadcast in 2059. If you would like to submit your story, song, poem, dance in video or audio email to Gayday@kpfk.org or call 1-800-735-0230
