MEXICAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS 2012 This Sunday July 1st, about 80 million Mexicans are electing a president, 128 senators and 500 federal deputies for the lower house of congress. The election takes place in the midst of a bloodbath provoked by the so-called war on drugs, with over 60,000 deaths, more than 13,000 disappearances and 100's of 1,000's displaced. The killings of journalists are the highest in the world and the student movement is the largest since the 1960's. And for the first time the left emerges as the second political force in the country.
