This is Dedon Kamathi producer and host of Freedom Now a Tues weekly Pan African and Internationalist radio journal. We seeks to present a liberation point of view for African people as well as for the multi-national listening audience of Southern California. Freedom Now is a modular program with a historical component, a Raising the Bars Prisoner segment, spoken word and a theme addressing some aspect of the National Liberation Movement all in a soulful music mix. So stay tune for our agenda here at Freedom Now.
Agenda
Hotep Freedom Now’s agenda for this Tues. Jan 15, 2008 will address the legacy of 2 Brotha’s who were critical in the 1960ties transformation of Los Angeles students and gangs members into the ranks of the Black Panther Party. John Huggins and Alprentice Bunchy Carter. Yes we are entering the Dr. Martin Luther King memorial holiday period and we do have 2 clips of Dr. King at his most brilliant analytical self. But I thought it would be quite revolutionary to address some of the unheralded heroes of the movement right here in Los Angeles. Millions worldwide acknowledge Dr. King but though I was not living in LA then, their legacy has had a great impact upon my life as well as the development of any movement activist in Los Angeles. Let us call them unsung heroes John Huggins and Bunchy Alpretice Carter who were assassinated January 18 1969 at UCLA. Hence tonights program is also a tribute to the warriors of Central Los Angeles in the Black Liberation Struggle. We will have Student activist from UCLA as well as Roland and Ronald Freeman and Brotha Long John original members of the Black Panther Party of Los Angeles.
We precede this section with our raising the bars prison segment with Brotha Mateef, Sista Zianne with the African Drum Beat Historical Calendar and our spoken work highlighted piece with Brotha Siddiki. Our music mix will cover Marvin Gaye, NAS, Sugar Minor,Life Force
Zap Mama, Parliaments. So kick back for a voyage into the land of liberation politics here at Freedom Now 90.7 fm in Los Angeles and 98.7 fm in Santa Barbara and streaming live on the web for the next 90 days at KPFK.org Audio archives Freedom Now Jan 15 and as always we stand Ready For The Revolution.
