For the better part of a half century, Charlie Haden has been one of the most innovative artists in the world of music and one of the most forward-looking political activists on the jazz scene. Charlie Haden's latest recording, though, is most distinctive because it is a return to the music of his childhood ...and the contrast is both a surprise and a delight.
Before Charlie Haden became a groundbreaking jazz bassist, he made his mark on the radio airwaves as the yodeling infant sibling playing country, gospel and bluegrass music in The Haden Family Band.I'll talk with Charlie Haden live in the KPFK studios this Monday October 6th from 12 Noon -1pm about the incredible contrast of his latest recording, "Rambling Boy," and the journey back to a musical world far removed from the genre that has been his home for so many years.
That's Monday October 6th, 2008... the first day of the Fall fund Drive from 10 am-1pm and we’ll be offering signed copies of Rambling Boy and other special delights including the new box set entitled Nina Simone To Be Free: The Nina Simone Story...right here on KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles, 98.7FM Santa Barbara on around the world at www.kpfk.org
