Grammy Award—winning jazz guitarist Bill Frisell—along with violinist Jenny Scheinman, steel guitar player Greg Leisz, and bassist Viktor Krauss—performs his compositional suite inspired by the life and work of great American artist Mike Disfarmer (1884-1959), the reclusive figure who gained fame for his photographs of rural Arkansas life during the Depression and beyond. Drawing in part on traditional Ozark fiddle music, Frisell's piece echoes the timeless, captivating qualities of Disfarmer's portraits through atmospheric soundscapes and traditional American musical forms. Adding to the concert's ambience will be some of Disfarmer's compelling images projected behind the stage.
