Double-feature! The Dancing Room is a film document of a powerful, enigmatic dance work, choreographed by Kate Flatt, about the rituals of life and death in Transylvania. Filmed in an eerie underground location and specially staged for the camera, the piece draws on diverse styles from around the world. Mary Anthony: A Life in Modern Dance profiles modern dance pioneer Mary Anthony, who for fifty years has inspired an international community of artists through her remarkable teaching, noted choreography, and spirited life. Directed by Tonia Shimin, this documentary sheds light not only on Mary Anthony’s artistry but on American modern dance itself. (2004, 65 min. No MPAA rating.) A Q&A with director Tonia Shimin follows the screening.
