This is the IMRU community calendar for the week of January 10th, 2011-01-10.

Starting out tonight with “STANDING ON CEREMONY: THE GAY MARRIAGE PLAYS” which opens tonight at 8PM, and continues until Feb. 7th, at Largo at the Coronet! “Standing on Ceremony is A THEATRICAL EVENT TO BENEFIT MARRIAGE EQUALITY WRITTEN BY ACCLAIMED AND AWARD-WINNING PLAYWRIGHTS like JORDAN HARRISON, JEFFREY HATCHER, MOISÉS KAUFMAN, (who wrote the Laramie Project, which I did a piece about not too long ago) as well as NEIL LaBUTE, WENDY McLEOD, KATHY NAJIMY, and JOSÉ RIVERA. Now, if you’re looking for something a little more active, this Wednesday, the Gay and Lesbian Sierra Club is having their Griffith Park conditioning hike, for those of you who are looking for a fun way to stay fit and enjoy what small amounts of nature we have left in Los Angeles. This weekly event is every Wednesday night at 7pm. It’s a moderate hike of 5 miles to Mt. Hollywood starting with a meeting at the flagpole near the vending machines at the Griffith Park Visitors Center. You can find other gay and lesbian outtings at angeles.sierraclub.org

And for any film lovers who feel like seeing some films outside of the traditional commercial market, Thursday night is a night of TRANSGENDER SHORT FILMS at THE TG FILM FEST at the Echo Park Film Center. This event is only $5 to attend and it weaves elements of documentary and narrative film in order to entertain and enlighten with sweet, seductive, and subversive visions from the queerest part of the LGBT spectrum. This Friday, the South Bay LGBT Center will be open for your use and enjoyment. Come by and pick up publications, join in conversations about a variety of topics or just hang out in a safe place. For a small donation, participants can enjoy coffee, tea, sodas, water and sometimes desserts. For more information you can call (310) 328-6550.


Also running this week, Celebration Theater’s production of “Take Me Out”continues on what I’ve been told is a highly successful run . I saw this show, and I can tell you it’s a really fantastic production. The writing, the performances, the directing is all top notch. Every theater lover in LA should see it. Tickets can be bought at celebrationtheatre.com and the show runs Thurs - Sat at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm.


And on Saturday, which is also my birthday, for those who wish to know, there’s an art showcase called, “Beyond Visions” in Downtown Azusa, California. This is an equality showcase that will feature medias of Art that relate to Peace and Love in all forms. There’s also going to be music and free refreshments and the whole event is FREE! And on Monday, January 17, from 7pm – 9pm, there will be a PFLAG meeting at the Rolling Hills United Methodist Church. Members and visitors, family and friends of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community are invited to attend and membership is not required.
