Noticiero Pacífica was created in May, 1981, in the KPFK News Department in order to give Latin Americans living Southern California news from their countries, incorporating reports from correspondents residing in Latin America. Along with KPFK’s Morning Bilingual News, it is considered among the only independent news programs focusing on Latin American issues in Los Angeles today. Since its inception, Noticiero Pacífica has focused on Central America, Cuba and the Bolivarian revolutionary process in Venezuela with President Hugo Chavez. Noticiero Pacífica: Fighting against disinformation and denouncing those who remain silent. * A voice for Latin Americans in Southern California. * A pioneer in Spanish programming at KPFK and part of the Spanish-language block on Saturdays.
Carlos Quintanilla has been a journalist for more than twelve years. He earned a degree in journalism with an emphasis in Radio Broadcasting. He also finished KPFK's fifteen-month Apprenticeship Program in 1992. He has traveled to several countries and taken part in seminars and workshops about community radio. Quintanilla also writes for news agencies and newspapers in Latin America. He is Radio Bilingue's correspondent in Los Angeles. He also writes for Change-Links, Montelibre and other papers in the U.S.A. In 1987, Quintanilla joined Noticiero Pacífica as a Los Angeles reporter.
