BREAKING THE SIEGE OF GAZA
On August 1st people of all ages and backgrounds - teachers, medics, musicians, lawyers, students, actors, playwrights, politicians and journalists - will take a boat from Cypress and break the siege of Gaza.They've tried to enter by land and by air to no avail, so now they're getting serious - they're taking a boat.
This week Radio Intifada will look at the current situation on the ground in Gaza and explore the dire situation that propelled these activists to take matters in their own hands and defy Israel.
We will also discuss culture as resistance; youth and their spoken word; and resistance through the pen.
Our Guests are:
Dr.Yigal Arens, Division Director at USC's Information Sciences Institute, grew up in Israel and speaks in support of a non-Zionist state and justice for the Palestinians. He will discuss with the current situation on the ground in Gaza today;
Greta Berlin is a long time Palestinian solidarity activist and one of the founders of the Free Gaza movement;
Omar Chakaki, architect and Hip -Hop artist, is a founding member of N.O.M.A.D.S; and
Mark Gonzales, poet, educator and organizer, has traveled from refugee camps in Palestine to the streets of Havana. He was awarded a UCLA fellowship to integrate hip-hop into the university curriculum.
