Challenging Israeli Impunity:

The UN, the Goldstone Report and Campus Divestment Campaigns

South African jurist Richard Goldstone’s Report to the UN Human Rights Council issued last September called for an independent investigation into allegations of crimes during “Operation Cast Lead last September. The report was effectively buried, and Goldstone himself has been widely vilified. Now there is some discussion of bringing it directly to the UN General Assembly.

Even as official avenues to hold Israel accountable for its violation of human rights are pursued, human rights organizations around the world are pursuing more direct pressure through boycott and divestment campaigns. In the US, these campaigns are gaining momentum on college campuses.

Richard Falk, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories joins us to discuss the fate of the Goldstone Report and his own role as Special Rapporteur.

Ibrahim Shikaki, University of California, Berkeley student active in Students for Justice in Palestine will talk about the landmark student divestment resolution passed recently and the fight to overturn its veto; and

Gabriel Schivone, Co-Director, University Community for Human Rights, will talk about the student-led campaign for divestment at the University of Arizona.
