The "Peace Talks" - Deja Vu and

the Launching of the Californian Divest from

Israel Ballot Initiative 

In this week's program, we will first talk with Al-Awda chair, Jess Ghannam, about the Palestinian response to the "peace talks" and why BDS is imperative.

We will then focus on the California ballot Initiative that would require the two state retirement funds (PERS and STRS) to divest from corporations engaged in certain business in Israel. The ballot Initiative - the first statewide effort in the US - was released by the office of the Attorney General late last week. The California Israel Divestment Campaign is being formally launched on Weds, 9/8 with a Press Conference outside the Israel Consulate.
Chris Yatooma, the official proponent of the measure will explain the Initiative and the process for getting it on the ballot;  activist Yael Korin will update listeners on what happened at the press conference; and STRS participant and former congressional candidate Marcy Winograd will tell us why she has enthusiastically endorsed the Divestment Initiative.
