This week, Radio Intifada focuses on Iran. We will be speaking with Ms. Elahe Amani discussion her recent research on the direction of some in the progressive movement who met late last year with Iranian President Ahmadinejad, calling him and his government "Grassroots activists". She will also discuss the extend of the oppression and how it relates to the state of economy.
Second half of the program we will discuss the worsening economic conditions in Iran and how it has impacted the society at large.
Our guests are:
Elahe Amani : A human rights, peace and social justice activist. Until recently she served as the Chair of Coalition of women from Asia and the Middle East and currently is the co-chair of the Women’s Intercultural Network; a global organization based in San Francisco. She works closely with the Iranian human rights defenders and is on the board of the Southern California’s Society for Support of Human Rights in Iran. Elahe, a trained mediator who works closely with Mediators Beyond Boarders, is well published both in English and Persian and works closely with Iranian activist inside Iran.
Kaveh Ehsani: Kaveh Ehsani is and Assistant Professor in International Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at DePaul University in Ill. His specialty is Politics, economy and culture of the Middle East, particularly Iran. He Focuses on the Geopolitics of Iran and Afghanistan and is the Co-Editor of the journal Middle East Report and an editorial board member of the Iranian quarterly publication.
