Beautiful Resistance: Defying the Occupation Through the Theater and the Art

This week’s show will be an interview with Dr. Abdelfattah Abusrour, who is a playwright, poet, and founder of Al-Rowwad Cultural & Theatre Center in the Aida Refugee Camp, just outside of Bethlehem in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Born and raised in the Aida refugee camp, Dr. Abusrour knows occupation first-hand, having lived through the 1967 war as a four-year-old child. He earned a doctorate in biological and medical engineering, but then gave up a promising career in science for his main passion: poetry and theater. He returned to Aida Camp and has devoted his life to creating a “beautiful theater of resistance.” We will discuss with him the importance of cultural resistance in the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation and apartheid.

Guest: Dr. Abdelfattah Abusrour who is a playwright, poet, and founder of Al-Rowwad Cultural & Theatre Center in the Aida Refugee Camp, Palestine
