The Rise of the Drones
In February, Congress followed by President Barak Obama, passed and signed a law that would eventually, as early as 2015, open the American airspace to unmanned aerial vessels, or UAVs, for commercial, scientific, and law enforcement, public safety use. Pakistani journalist, Madiha Tahir, will discuss the numerous arguments that have been made for and against drone use internationally, the American sentiment of such use, as well as the advent of drone use for U.S. domestic purposes.
Guest: Madiha Tahir is an independent multimedia and print journalist reporting on conflict, culture and politics in Pakistan. Her work has appeared in Foreign Affairs, The National, The Columbia Journalism Review, The Wall Street Journal, The Herald (Pakistan), The Friday Times, as well as on Democracy Now!, PRI’s The World, Global Post and other outlets. She holds a masters degree in Near Eastern Studies from NYU and an M.S. from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
