SPEAKING OF STRUGGLE -


This week, Radio Intifada hosts Khanum Shaikh and Azza Basarudin will be speaking with filmmaker Parvez Sharma about his groundbreaking film A Jihad for Love, which documents the struggles of gay and lesbian Muslims from around the world. We will also feature Professor Sahar Shafqat who has been an active member of the lawyers’ movement for judicial independence in Pakistan.

Parvez Sharma is a gay Indian Muslim filmmaker whose documentary A Jihad for Love looks into the lives of gay and lesbian Muslims living in different parts of the world. The documentary has been filmed in 12 countries and will be coming to Los Angeles at the Outfest on July 17th. It will also be playing at the Leamle theater from August 1st to the 7th.

Sahar Shafqat is an Associate Professor of Political Science at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She is a passionate supporter and an active member of the movement for a free judiciary in Pakistan.
