PACIFICA PERFORMANCE SHOWCASE

AIRDATE:  09/11/09, 12:00 – 1:00 pm

HOST:  Donna Walker

Today, we commemorate the events of 9/11 with theatrical pieces penned by playwright Joanne Morris and directed by the legendary filmmaker Charles Burnett (“Killer of Sheep,” “To Sleep With Anger,” “Nightjohn” “Namibia: The Struggle for Liberation”).  Joanne and Charles join us live, in-studio to present “9/11:  Perspectives and Pretentions.”   First performed at the Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica in 2007, these monologues are as timely and relevant as ever.  Performing excerpts on topics related or tangential to the events of 9/11 are Haaz Sleiman (of “The Visitor” fame) in “A Portrait of a Young Arab as an American,” Michaela Beckwith in “Repeat,” Yaping in “Been There, Done That,” Reem Mahmoud in “Red Glare,” and Candice Afia in “Darfur-gotten.”

Copies of this show can be ordered through the Pacifica Radio Archives at www.pacificaradioarchives.org.
