If you’ve ever used the phrases: “Veeery interesting,” “Boooring” “Sock it to me,” “Here Come da’ Judge,” “You bet your bippy?” “Is this the party to who I AM speaking?” you were influenced by that hip and happening comedy fest “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In.” Irreverent and groundbreaking, this celebrity-making series epitomized the late sixties/early seventies humor with a heavy dose of topicality. It also made household names of Lily Tomlin, Goldie Hawn, Ruth Buzzi, Artie Johnson, Henry Gibson, and Judy Carne, among others. “Is that another chicken joke?!” takes on new meaning when the inimitable Joanne Worley and Bruce Vilanch, Emmy Award-winning comedy writer, perhaps best known for “Hollywood Squares” with Whoopi Goldberg and the documentary “Laughing Matters: Gay Comedy in America”, join us to talk about “Actors and Others for Animals”.
Founded in 1971 to promote humane treatment of animals and improve their quality of life “Actors and Others for Animals” serves five Southern California counties, assisting lower income and elderly individuals reduce the pet population with financial assistance for spaying and neutering, along with emergency food and medical assistance for our beloved pets. During this year’s benefit, “Actors and Others for Animals” will awards its 2009 Humanitarian Award to Dick Van Paten. Joanne and Bruce talk about this “Celebration of Caring”, the other celebrities in attendance, along with plenty of information, laughter, and general comedic chaos.
