PACIFICA PERFORMANCE SHOWCASE
AIRDATE: 11/20/09, 2:30 – 3:00 pm
HOST: Donna Walker
GUESTS:
Kelly Carlin-McCall
Today, from a man whose passion was words his, “Last Words.” Kelly Carlin-McCall, daughter of the late, great comedian, social commentarist, author, 4-time Grammy Award winner, and rebel with a cause, George Carlin, joins me to discuss her father’s memoir, co-authored with Tony Hendra, “Last Words.”
A writer/performer in her own right, Kelly reads from her father’s self-professed “sortofbiography,” as we discuss his rich legacy and trace his evolution from his Irish-Catholic upbringing through his years as a comedy-team with Jack Burns, his subsequent fame, the formation of his political values, struggles with addiction, and those infamous “Seven Words You Can’t Say on Television.”
Everyone has their favorite Carlin routines, from those astute observations on the difference between football and baseball, what to do with your “stuff,” and the myriad ways in which we use and misuse words.
