Topical, politically charged skits and musical interludes, “Broad Comedy” is penned by Katie Goodman and Soren Kiesiel. Two casts members, Fiona Hardingham and Carolann DiPirro join us to discuss the show and perform excerpts from some of the sketches.
While definitely “R” rated for language and subject matter, “Broad Comedy” has broad appeal. Winner of the Vancouver Fringe Festival and nominated for an Epic Award, the White House Project for changing the images of women in the culture, “Broad Comedy” has received raves from such trailblazing feminists and luminaries at Gloria Steinam, Eve Ensler, Pat Schroeder, Lesley Stahl and Lynn Sherr. Deemed “The Dixie Chicks of American comedy,” it is heady and hilarious. The Boston Globe says, “If this irreverent, giddy, snarky, perky collage of satire, sketch comedy and cheerleading doesn’t make you laugh, then either you are incapable of laughter or you are Dick Cheney. Or, of course, both.”
They perform excerpts from: “Right Wing Cheerleaders” and as “perfect lesbian Moms”, they fear the ‘unnatural” heterosexual couple next door. Other skits includes: “I Drunk-Dialed Obama”, “There’s Never Been a Time as @#$%* as this,” and a parody infommercial on living your dreams as women entrepreneurs of the first totally female-owned and operated crack house. A provocative and insightful half-hour of laughs and fun.
