SPECIAL PLEDGE DRIVE EDITION

GUESTS:  Carmen Cusack (“South Pacific”) and David Ansen, former film critic for “Newsweek.”

In this special pledge drive edition, a combined effort of “Arts in Review” and “Pacifica Performance Showcase” we enlist your support in keeping Pacifica’s tremendous arts & culture legacy alive on KPFK for now and years to come.

Our in-studio guests: Carmen Cusack, taking on the role that Mary Martin made famous, she stars as Nelly Forbush in Bart Sher’s Tony Award-winning production of “South Pacific” playing at the Ahmanson Theatre. A beautiful ensemble, it faces head-on the elements of racism, clash of cultures, and war.

In the second half, David Ansen, former film critic of Newsweek, now artistic director of the Los Angeles Film Festival, taking place this year in a new downtown venue. He discusses the festivals highlights, including the opener, “The Kids Are All Right,” “Cyrus” and “Despicable Me,” his career as film critic and his new role with the festival.
