Melting Pot, hosted by Michael Barnes, is a weekly excursion into the paths of rhythm, featuring 2 hours of soulful sounds from Los Angeles, the US and all over the world, every Sunday from 4-6pm on KPFK Los Angeles, 90.7 FM / 98.7 FM in Santa Barbara and all over the world at KPFK.org.

Michael Barnes has been in college/community radio since the age of 18, beginning in Atlanta, GA at WRAS Atlanta, 88.5 FM, better known as “Album 88.” From 1996 to 1997, Barnes served as a co-music director at WRAS and during that time the station was nominated for a “College Radio Station of the Year” award from Gavin. Over the years he’s been a music programmer at WORT Madison, KALX Berkeley and most recently at KCRW.

Barnes also holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and currently teaches courses in Sociology at California State University, Long Beach.
