SURFIN’ SAFARI....is a faithful recreation of what it would have been like to see The Beach Boys live, in concert, in their prime. This 5 member line up is unrivaled in their sound, presentation, and professionalism. There are NO BACKING TRACKS or extra musicians playing off-stage! SURFIN' SAFARI is as close as you will ever get to seeing the original 5 member line up of the Beach Boys. The incomparable beauty of their vocal harmonies, the crashing back beat of Dennis Wilson's drums, the soaring surf guitar of Carl Wilson, and the genius of Brian Wilson's music is all here. The uniband choreography, the Fender guitar line up, the famous custom striped shirts, right down to the black suede Beach Boy boots, it's all here. SURFIN' SAFARI provides you with a great show, a great time, and fun, fun, fun till our Daddy takes the T-Bird away!

UKULELE LOKI'S GADABOUT ORCHESTRA
Aaron Johnson (Aaron "Ukulele Loki" Johnson) Ukulele Loki's Gadabout Orchestra is a Denver based 6 piece chamber-pop band that features ukulele, tuba, trombone, clarinet, glockenspiel, drums, and synth. Adjectives used to describe the band include: sepia-chord, indie-pan alley, and melancholy Brechtian carnival rock. The music appeals to fans of Neutral Milk Hotel, The Arcade Fire, Dr. Dog, the Decembrists, Sufjan Stevens, and more. The Gadabout Orchestra is a Denver favorite, having headlined all major venues and supported The Dresden Dolls, Chairlift, Devotchka, and many others. He is considered one of the pioneers of the current ukulele revival, having promoted the instrument since 2000. Loki is looking forward to the opportunity to enhance the show with stories of his sideshow and circus experiences.
Today, Ukulele Loki's Gadabout Orchestra plays music-mostly shows focusing on the songwriting and arrangements. A tortured songsmith, a charming host, and a humorist, Loki's riveting on-stage persona conjures comparisons to such disparate performers as Bing Crosby, Charlie Chaplin, David Byrne, Robert Smith, Elvis Costello, and Gordan Gano--think of Loki as a post-punk, death-rock, emo crooner/sad clown with a ukulele. And of course, given his history as a showman, an over-the-top, spectacle-laden show with performance artists is easy to come by, for the proper occasion.
It is safe to say that Ukulele Loki's Gadabout Orchestra is a wholly original experience, and a genre unto itself.

Ukuleles to play Beethoven at the "proms"
Thursday, Jun 11, 2009 2:38PM UTC
LONDON (Reuters) - The unlikely sound of ukuleles will take over one of Britain's largest classical musical festivals this summer, with an orchestra of the mini guitars performing Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" in a play-along special.
The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (UOGB), sporting tuxedos and brandishing "bonsai guitars," will perform on a stage usually reserved for the world's greatest symphony musicians.
They are calling on other 'uke' players to come to the concert and play along in a performance likely to be more reminiscent of George Formby than Beethoven.
The audience can look forward to "an astonishing revelation of the rich palette of orchestration afforded by ukuleles and singing (and a bit of whistling)," the UOGB said on its website.
The performance on August 18 will be part of the BBC proms season at the Royal Albert Hall. Music and online lessons for the piece can be found at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/2009/takepart/ukulele/.

Ukulele Society of America (USA)
The group of 50+ ukulele players regularly meets on Thursday evenings in Carlsbad, CA (North San Diego County and South Orange County) to play ukulele, sing, and hula. Conducted by professional entertainer Pat 'Palika' Enos and often aided by the 101 year old, Duke of Uke, Bill Tapia. The nightly format includes instructions and sing-along with Pat and Bill, Guest Conductors leading the group in song, a Kokua Team to help newcomers jam along on their first night, and an Open Mike to encourage advancing members to showcase their stuff. In addition to Pat's ukulele, the lead ensemble includes a stand-up bass player and is sometimes supplemented by slack key guitar. This is a learning and sharing atmosphere where the sound level is soft enough to hear yourself play your ukulele. Our goals are to become a fun learning center for aspiring group leaders to learn from the pros and then move on to start and nurture their own groups across the country and to train our group members to lead small groups in outreach performances to the community (Children's hospital and Senior Centers). We are the fastest growing ukulele group (arguably) in the country with over 250 Yahoo! group website members in our first year. All levels of ukulele players welcome. For further information, visit our group website http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Ukulele_Society_of_America/ and ask Captain Mike to join.
