From the Frontlines: “International Day of Action†update from the Western Shoshone Nation
In Newe Sogobia (Western Shoshone Nation), a multi-coalition of indigenous activist from Newe Sogobia and elsewhere along with other peace activist met in front of the Nevada Test Site to protest the United States Department of Defense’s detonation of a 700-ton “quasi-nuclear†bunker bomb initially scheduled for June 2nd, 2006. Despite “indefinite postponement,†ironically mentioned early Friday morning of the testing by the Department of Defense, over 450 to 500 activist arrived in protest of the government’s continuing human rights abuse, treaty violations of the Western Shoshone Nation, and its continuing militarization of “Indian Country.â€
Today’s show highlights what took place, from the frontlines, on the “International Day of Action†on May 28th, 2006 in Newe Sogobia at the Nevada Test Site where over 50 protesters were arrested.
