Tracy Nelson (Tribal Chairman of the La Jolla Band of Luiseno Nation). In an American Indian Airwaves exclusive, Tracy recently spoke with us this past Sunday (11/11/07) at the Native Americans Veterans Associations (NAVA) Pow Wow in Harbor City, CA about his personal accounts, along with his wife, other First Nation peoples, and volunteer firefighters attempts to protect their traditional homelands by the recent Southern California fires which scorched and destroyed over 92% of the La Jolla and Rincon Bands of the Luiseno Nation. La Jolla and Rincon were the two hardest hit First Nations by the recent spate of Southern California fires. Tracy conveys, in a lengthy and detailed account, of the tragic day that engulfed his peoples lands, the sorrow and pain, and the plans to revitalize, rebuild, and the rebirth of the La Jolla Band of Luiseno Nation.
