Tuesday, 06/26/12, on American Indian Airwaves - 8p.m. to 9p.m (KPFK FM 90.7)

“Hijacking & Corrupting Indigenous Democracies: A Historical & Contemporary Oratory with Oren Lyons: Part 1 of 2”

American Indian Airwaves presents part one of a two part special on how American settlers hijacked Indigenous democracies and the democratic principles within, co-opted and mangled Indigenous diplomatic ideals and norms, and then reconstituted these very principles into an American, settler democracy; meanwhile fanning and continuing the processes of Indigenous democide and other forms of “cide”.

Oren Lyons (Faithkeeper of the Turtle Clan of the Onondaga and Seneca Nations of the Haudenosaunee) discusses traditional Indigenous forms of democracy, bio-sovereignty, treaty violations, the rights of Mother Earth, Indigenous peoples struggles globally, and the persistent manifestations of the settler society’s Wetiko Psychosis.

Part 1 and 2 of today’s special feature is from April 17th, 2012 when Elder Oren Lyons spoke at Claremont Mekenna College in Claremont, California.

SPECIAL NOTICE: weekly shows can now be heard on the KPFK web site (http://www.kpfk.org) under "audio archives" located on the top of the KPFK webpage.
