We hear from Dr. Alex Rogers, a Professor of Conservation Biology at the Department of Zoology and a Fellow of Somerville College, University of Oxford. A recent symposium held in Monterey, California, exposed the impact of ocean acidification, a result of carbon emissions, on coral reefs, shellfish, and other marine life.
Dr. Rogers will talk about acidification and other threats to the ocean, the danger faced by life on earth, and what we can do about it. His special interests are the deep sea, particularly seamounts, cold-water corals and chemosynthetic ecosystems. He is also deeply concerned about the impacts of human activities on the oceans and serves as the Scientific Director of the International Programme on State of the Ocean (IPSO).
