The #CancelRent Festival

A record 3.3 million workers have applied for unemployment insurance in the past week alone, meanwhile, coronavirus sweeps across the nation leaving an economic and health crisis in its wake. These people are facing the prospects of a mountain of debt or outright evictions from the very homes that are keeping them safe in this moment of physical distancing.

With the coronavirus crisis, many of us are stuck between staying healthy or staying housed. With the loss of our incomes, we may not be able to make rent on April 1st or May 1st.  We’re envisioning a future beyond recovery and calling out to our electeds to #CancelRent #CancelMortgages and guarantee #HomesForAll!

Rent Parties have deep roots in the Black struggle for freedom, self-determination and mutual aid. We're bringing back this hundred-year-old tradition to demand a just response to coronavirus.

Join us for 10 consecutive days of the #CancelRent Festival! The first performance was on Sunday, March 29th kicked off with Grammy-nominated artist Aloe Blacc!

Come back at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT every day and tune in early on weekends at 5 pm ET/2 pm PT for bonus shows, where talented and notable acts will raise our demands while we dance! For more information on the #CancelRent Festival lineup, to register for the writing sessions and community discussions, and to invite your friends, family, and community to join us check out the #CancelRent Festival on Facebook!

Our homes, health, and collective safety and futures are on the line. Millions of us don’t know how we are going to pay our rent, mortgage, or utilities on April 1st, yet landlords and banks are expecting payment as if it’s business as usual. It’s not.

Join millions of us to fight for a future free from debt and to win a national suspension on rent, mortgage and utility payments!

Please help us continue to adapt and strengthen our community services by giving what you can today.
