One of the world's great playwrights, 5-time Tony Award winner, Tom Stoppard drew on two minor characters from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" to create an existential, absurd tragicomedy "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead," his first play to gain major recognition, also writing and directing the film version starring Gary Oldman and Tim Roth.
