Over the decades, Al Green’s impact in music is undeniable. With Eleven Grammy ® Awards, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 1995, a “Lifetime Achievement Award” at both the 2002 GRAMMY AWARDS® and the 2009 BET Awards and most recently being celebrated in Washington D.C. at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2014, Al Green continues to be a commanding presence in music. In 2023, Green put his signature touch on Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day,” which The New York Times described as “a sumptuous reimagining of Lou Reed’s 1972 classic,” followed by a soul-stirring cover of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” in 2024 with Stereogum stating, “he gives the song new emotional shades and textures.” These critically acclaimed releases prove that his voice—full of warmth, grit, and grace—is as powerful as ever.
