"Celebrate Culture and Legacy: Derf Reklaw Arts & Heritage Presents the Second Annual Derf Reklaw Experience"
The Second Annual Derf Reklaw Experience is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the World Stage in Leimert Park. Hosted by Albert Lord, Vice President of Community Build, the Experience honors individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to cultural preservation in the arts.
This year’s event will recognize the Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra, Lula Washington, and Marlene Beckford for their unwavering dedication to the preservation and advancement of cultural heritage.
The Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra is renowned for their powerful jazz performances and commitment to empowering communities hrough the spirit of Pan-Africanism.
Lula Washington, a celebrated choreographer and the founder of the Lula Washington Dance Theatre, highlights African American stories and experiences through movement.
Marlene Beckford, the owner of Ackee Bamboo restaurant, promotes cultural pride through culinary arts. Her establishment serves as a gathering space for the community.
The Derf Reklaw Experience promises to be an engaging event, featuring live performances and heartfelt tributes to the honorees.
The event will take place at The World Stage, located at 4321 Degnan Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90008. Admission is $20.

The Derf Reklaw Arts & Heritage nonprofit organization is dedicated to honoring and preserving the cultural legacies of artists, activists, and community leaders who have shaped the cultural landscape of Leimert Park and beyond. Named after the late legendary jazz musician and educator Derf Reklaw, the organization supports the next generation of aspiring performing artists and musicians by providing resources, educational programs, and professional development opportunities to foster their growth and success.
