Robert Harling's play "Steel Magnolias" was written as a tribute to his sister, who died from complications due to diabetes. Following the lives of six women in a small Louisiana beauty salon, their friendship, loves and losses, it is humorous and heartbreaking. It was adapted into a very successful film starring in 1989 starring Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton and Olympia Dukakis.
LA Theatre Works presentation was recorded in Los Angeles before a live audience at The James Bridges Theater, UCLA in October of 2015.
