LATW's mission is to record and preserve great performances of important stage plays, using new technology to make world-class theatre accessible to the widest possible audience, and to expand the use of theatre as a teaching tool.
LATW was founded in 1974 to give voice to underrepresented groups, bring attention to new plays and playwrights, and produce plays that address critical historical, cultural and social issues. In the 1990's, LATW embraced audio recording in lieu of conventional theatrical presentation. Today, LATW is the nation's leading producer of audio theatre. We produce world classics, modern masterpieces, contemporary and original works that speak to the issues of our times.
Home to the largest collection of professionally produced audio theatre in the country, LATW builds on this unique resource with an evolving range of programs that bring an immersive theatre experience to a diverse audience regardless of geographic and economic barriers, including:
• Live Series: Held at UCLA's 278-seat James Bridges Theater, the Live Series presents radio-theatre style live performances of classic and new plays with award-winning actors.
