Press conference for how Survivors of the Eaton Fire—loyal State Farm policyholders for years or decades—are calling on California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara to investigate State Farm for a pattern of delays and denials in handling the claims of Altadena wildfire survivors. They are urging the Commissioner to reject the company’s proposed rate hike until State Farm fulfills its contractual obligations to California families.

Eaton Fire survivors tell their stories about being financially devastated, living in toxic, unrepaired homes, and suffering serious health impacts due to State Farm delayed claims.  State Farm has abandoned longtime policyholders and Eaton Fire survivors, delaying and denying claims. While families have had to turn to credit cards and crowdfunding to survive, State Farm is asking regulators for a rate hike.  Participants include Joy Chen, of Eaton Fire Survivors Network; 8 State Farm policyholders (4 will speak; all available for on-the-record interviews); a retired 40-year insurance industry veteran (for off-the-record commentary); Carmen Balber, Executive Director, Consumer Watchdog.

The event takes place Thursday, 4/17/25 at 10 am, in front of the State Farm tent, 1900 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA.
