"Listen Here" explores Jazz from "A" to "Z." From Armstrong to Zawinul. "Listen Here" is Jazz music for the mind, body and soul. Hosted by Ollie Bivins, a former writer for various L.A. Jazz print publications. who has written album reviews and have interviewed well over 50 Jazz artists. Including Wayne Shorter, Archie Shepp, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Phil Ranelin, Dwight Trible, Marilyn Crispell, Vijay Iyer Barbara Morrison, Bill Frisell, and Enrico Rava. To name but a few.
Ollie grew up in the 1960's in Flint, Michigan. An auto manufacturing city sixty-five miles north of Detroit. He grew up marinated in the music of Motown. Along with R&B and Top 40 Pop and Rock music.
In their homes, his parents and grandparents played such artists as Count Basie, Dinah Washington, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, Barbra Streisand, Duke Ellington, Arthur Prysock, Lightnin' Hopkins and Howlin' Wolf. Among many others.
The Jazz, Rock, Pop, R&B and Brazilian music he heard all greatly shaped his musical and political consciousness growing up as a Black young man in the United States of America.
