One of America's foremost playwrights, Lillian Hellman was celebrated for her many works including "The Children's Hour," "The Little Foxes," "Another Part of the Forest," "Toys in the Attic," and "Watch on the Rhine" and more. Also an activist, she was blacklisted after her appearance before the House on Unamerican Committee (HUAC), as was romantically fellow writer and political activist Dashiell Hammett with whom she was romantically involved. She was infamously at odds with fellow writer Mary McCarthy and was the subject of the movie "Julia," and author of a memoir "Pentimento."
