First published in 1956, "Bang the Drum Slowly" was the second in a series of novels written by Harris that chronicles the career of baseball player Henry W. Wiggen. It was a sequel to "The Southpaw" (1953), followed by "A Ticket for a Seamstitch," (1957) and concluding with "It Looked Liked For Ever," (1979).
